Ruger 9mm Micro
At just 6.0 inches long, 4.52 inches wide and 0.95 inches wide, the compact Ruger MAX-9 meets the requirements of a small concealed carry pistol and is compatible with SIG SAUER, Springfield and Smith & Wesson options. .
Ruger Security 9 Compact 9mm Pistol
Its weight of 18.4 ounces puts the MAX-9 between the SIG P365 (17.8 oz) and the Springfield Hellcat (18.6 oz) and is almost dead on par with the S&W M&P9 Shield Plus (17.9 oz to 20.2 oz for the 3.1-inch barrel model depending on size and security options).
Any fan of the Ruger LC9s, the rugged and popular CCW options, will feel right at home with the MAX-9. Think of it as a modern LC9 with more power - three more wheels on board.
Ruger's MAX-9 has a square grip design that fits almost any serious shooter. Although they are flat on the sides and front and back, the edges are rounded enough that I found them comfortable to hold.
Stone structures are made in a polymer frame. They are grippy, but they are soft enough and the edges are smooth enough that they don't scratch your skin too much when you carry the i-board.

My stock model MAX-9 has a finger guard on the left side of the frame under the rear tip. It's unsightly but easy to use with a steady and sharp stop in both positions.
For users who prefer a handheld device without hand protection, the MAX-9 Pro model is ideal.

The trigger guard is pressed until it is perfectly flush with the front of the trigger, providing a rounded surface with smooth edges.
Gun Review: Ruger Max 9 Micro Compact 9mm Pistol
Ruger designed the MAX-9's trigger to be more relaxed, as opposed to one that stops firmly against the wall and jumps without moving again as the pull increases. The overall stroke is comparable to other modern shotguns and is very smooth and has the same weight before breaking too much.
It weighs about four to four and a half pounds, and probably feels lighter than it is because of the smooth rolling.
The MAX-9 update is soft but clean. It's a subtle "wiggle" that is audible and audible, but not too much.
Overall, this is a great starter for everyday carry. If I could play it myself, I would have liked a bit more processing, and I'm not a fan of how it shakes left and right in the frame more than most.
Ruger Lcp Max: A Monster Of A Micro Gun
I appreciate the textured metal magazine release button here. I find it better than the polymer button. I don't know why, but the contrast between polymer and metal and the solid feel just makes me happy.
The magazine release is the MAX-9's only improvement, as it can be adjusted for right-handed use.
The MAX-9 sliding latch is easy to use. Thanks to the built-in "gate" that revolves around the lever on three sides, it's a little tricky to manually close the slide section of the MAX-9. Basically you have to be very careful with it and get to the center of the bottom of the bolt to hold with a lot of internal power and drive.
Of course, since some shooters have grip issues that cause the rifle to lock up when firing, I would take a MAX-9 accidental fire safety bolt - and always install it - to make it easier to manually lock the barrel.
Micro Nines: The New World Champ Or Another Contender?
I love the look of the black metal rear sight combined with a nice rear sight, and that's what Ruger chose for the MAX-9. The edge of the machine around the tip of the visor is a convenient place for the user to fill in the paint if your preference includes a variation of the clear outline around or under the notch.
From the front, the Ruger MAX-9 has a unique design that uses a vial of tritium to illuminate a green fiber optic tube. Whether it's day or night, it's probably the best look.
Above, a blank with the Ruger logo fills the slide area that is cut to reveal the micro-reflex optics. If you choose not to run the MAX-9 with red optics, you won't even know the board is there.
The MAX-9 comes with pre-set optics, cut to directly mount the J-Point and Shield pattern red dot sights.
Talo Edition Ruger Max 9
Removing the cover reveals a mounting point designed for a Shield RMS or JPoint (or others that use the same design) micro red dot sight (MRDS).
As I recently moved, my JPoint and Shield are still full. I took Nikon's existing SIG ROMEO1 to see how it would fit, but both lenses were too long to fit the MAX-9 slide. Not that the shape of the screw on these sights can be matched, but I was surprised by the shape of the Shield MRDS.
Again, there are no optional upgrades on the MAX-9. The MSRP of $499 includes a tritium + fiber optic front sight and clear cut glass. It's a tough standard for bucks.
After properly firing (emptying and cleaning) the gun, in order to release the force from the firing pin, the operator must insert the firing pin to the left. When the pull pin is out, the slide should be pulled back a little (about 1/8 inch) before the pin comes out of the left side of the frame with paper or a punch. Right Lane.

Since I didn't have a tool small enough to push the pin to the right, I bumped the left side of the MAX-9 against the rail sleeper seen in the photo above. After a few hard hits, the pin came out enough for me to squeeze and pull it out.
I would prefer a trigger pull that is like today's shotguns with a nice grip lever that is easily operated by hand.
In fact, the MAX-9 worked well for me and Dan. It's a solid little shooter with an excellent trigger and quick, easy-to-shoot that was right where you wanted it. It's a nice sight, but that's to be expected for a small, light gun (less than my P365, more than a Hellcat).
Dan liked the look and feel of the MAX-9's grip frame more than I did, which is probably due to his small, thin hands that fit closer to the edge of the frame than my male hands.
Ruger Ec9s Vs Kimber Micro 9 Size Comparison
No complaints from me, mind you, I just like the slightly rounder feel of the P365 (albeit a small one) and especially the larger girth, rounder feel of the Shield Plus. That said, the MAX-9 is a smaller box with more rounded edges than the smaller Springfield Hellcat, which shoots well, but the look isn't my cup of tea.
Although the MAX-9 looks small, its output is very effective. The sharp, 90-degree edges combined with a small point about a third of the way up and more of a "valley" than a "valley" make for an incredibly strong combination. Top marks here for MAX-9.
The double-width magazine is combined with a narrow taper at the top of the magazine for quick and easy magazine changes. The controls and features worked well, although I would have liked a more aggressive look to use. Considering the number of hours my carry gun spends on my love handle versus the few hours it shoots, I think Ruger made the right choice with a slightly softer grip.
After many boxes of rare 9mm ammo sent down, from 147 grain FMJ to 115 hole tips and several types of everything in between (including steel and aluminum cased items), the MAX-9 has proven to be reliable. and he is definitely not a picky eater.

I had a strange load during testing - it felt like an overloaded cartridge or a bullet that had misfired during the closing (cheap reload) - and even though I stopped immediately to check the bores and such, the little Ruger didn't seem to. story. He ejected the case properly and put another round in the chamber and everything looked, felt and functioned like it did when the gun was brand new.
